The residents at the Lutheran Home Communities have been taking advantage of the last few weeks of summer, and the warm weather! This week, Assisted Living residents in Vinton took a trip to Youngeville Cafe where they enjoyed a delicious lunch followed by homemade pie!
One of the best parts about the end of Iowa summers is enjoying the sweet corn! The Davenport Lutheran Home residents grew up growing, harvesting and eating sweetcorn. This week they have enjoyed the nostalgia as they shucked, then ate some delicious Iowa corn!!
Whew…the humidity has been intense lately! That doesn’t mean, however, that there has been any shortage of fun! If it’s too hot to go outside, “summer camp” activities occur inside at the Davenport Lutheran Home! Indoor balloon volleyball was a wonderful “summer camp” activity at DLH this week!
The dog days of summer are upon us, and residents at the Vinton Lutheran Home have been taking full advantage! Sitting outdoors, and soaking up nature is SO good for the soul!
The Vinton Lutheran Home has almost completed another Drive Thru Season! The Drive thru has been open from 11:00am-1:00pm every Wednesday in June and July this year (except for July 4th). During the Drive Thru, customers pull into the front drive, and place their order under the Lutheran Home canopy. They then pull down to the next set of doors where their food is delivered to their vehicle.
The Drive Thru menu includes: Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers, Chocolate Malts, and Vanilla malts. All the burgers are 1/2 lb, hand seasoned, and served on pretzel roll buns. The malts are homemade and whipped up each Wednesday just before the drive thru begins. This drive thru season has been truly wonderful and all proceeds raised will go toward life enhancements for VLH residents and tenants. Special thanks to each individual who has come through the Drive Thru this year, and if you haven’t come yet, you’ve got one more Wednesday left this season to change that 😉
Staff and Residents at the Vinton Lutheran Home had a wonderful time hosting the annual Ice Cream Social on Sunday, July 14th. Many volunteers and visitors participated in the event, helping to ensure a successful afternoon. The Ice Cream Social is the Vinton Lutheran Home’s largest fundraiser of the year, and all proceeds raised go toward life enhancements for the residents. Wonderful memories were made last Sunday, and a great time was had by all! We can’t wait for next year!!
The Davenport Lutheran Home Residents have been enjoying “Summer Camp” every week at DLH. This past week at “camp” residents enjoyed rock painting. Their finished products looked wonderful, and they were able to display their completed rocks indoors or out!
The Davenport Lutheran Home hosted a Fundraising “Luau” last Friday evening, for the first time. The event drew many residents and visitors for an authentic Hawaiian Meal, and all proceeds from the event will go toward life enhancements for the residents. A wonderful night was had by all!
Summer Time and the living is easy!
Residents at the Vinton Lutheran Home spent time outdoors last week breathing in the beautiful summer weather. “Giant Kerplunk” was played one afternoon under the canopy and enjoyed by all!
Father’s Day Celebrations at the Lutheran Home Communities were a huge success! A steak Cook Out was served to the father’s (and their guests) at the Davenport Lutheran Home followed by banjo music entertainment! Vinton fathers and their loved ones enjoyed a brisket and short ribs dinner with entertainment provided by guest speaker, Andrew Elwick, on the history of Vinton.
